Are your fingers cramped and your eyes burning from all your Cyber Monday Shopping? Please remember Family Promise on ‪#‎Giving‬Tuesday

and for the rest of this holiday season

– Every Child Deserves a Home!

Because Every Child Needs a Home!
And you can help!

After the turkey is gone, the dishes are clean, after you have braved shopping or shopped on the web, it is time to give a little and help a lot.
Family Promise Knoxville will be participating in this years Giving Tuesday. We invite you, your friends, and family to join us in helping Every Child Get a Home.

One of the greatest joys for us is when our graduate families come to give back. Several former guests helped with our new day center from painting, to wiring to landscaping and now, with our new raised vegetable gardens, there are many helping opportunities.   Today I am especially grateful for one family that has been on their path to complete self sufficiency for just over two years. The Dad is now our newest van driver too.  He uses both of his days off to drive our families early in the morning and late in the afternoon. For this family the future is bright and they give back to help others!

“A Prayer for Inner Strength

Dear God, Please give me the strength to endure this situation, and to find the blessings and lessons that it contains. Please give me the endurance to continue ahead. Please guide my thoughts, words, and actions, so that I walk your path of peace and love. Amen!” By CB

As we prepare for Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, let’s not forget #givingtuesday! Join our on line push to raise $5000 on Giving Tuesday so that we can be here for more families like CB’s.

Today a recent grad learned that her day care was closing in two weeks. For some this would be a bump in the road but for her it could have been a disaster. She just moved  to her new apartment a few months ago and gave birth to her third child. She had carefully made plans for her future with a job and school, which began just two weeks ago. She has very little time off and now she has to begin again to find good child care for an infant -that is hard to come by on a strict budget. All she could envision was having to quit the job quit school and lapse back to homelessness. Because we have generous donors and compassionate volunteers we can come to the rescue. Family Promise and our many volunteers will stand with her and walk with her through this.  Many don’t have a Family Promise. Lack of good affordable child care is a leading factor in family homelessness. Because of your support this story will have a happy ending!

The rain cleared and the show went on with 16 amazing pastas, loads of cakes and cookies, kids activities and the fabulous band The early Morning String Dusters.  You  raised 50K for Family Promise!  Thank you to all and especially our many generous sponsors, see Home Page  post , and our Judges, Mayor Burchett, City Counsel Member Martial Stair, News Sentinel food editor, Mary Constantine, TV Chef Walter Lambert, Judy Black, “Crowd Pleaser” winning pasta chef 2014 and Bob Olivo, “Judges Choice” 2014 representative. You can make the future brighter for so many. Please donate today.

Our family is changing. Anne Umbach-Stokes is leaving Family Promise to begin a new job! She and D.J. will welcome Baby Stokes in May. Her service with us has been exemplary in every respect. She has worked tirelessly for Family Promise and for each and every family that has passed through our doors. To say she will be missed is a gross understatement. However, we are all delighted that she has the opportunity to spend time with her baby and expend her vast energy on “Motherhood.”  Join us in wishing her well.

So… today I am posting a job description for Anne’s position as Director of Family Support Services. Soon I will be introducing you to a new face; one who will bring new ideas and put his or her own stamp on the position. And, we will warmly welcome our new family member and look forward to new beginnings.
